Rebecca is head over heels in love
with Robin Colcord and hires a harpist to play at Cheers.
When Rebecca goes into her office Sam tells the harpist to
stop. As she's packing up
she asks if anyone can give her a hand.
Cliff is more than happy to give her a
hand as well as the history of the harp. |
I wonder if
you know that the harp here is the grandfather of the modern
day guitar. Yeah, it seems that early Minstrels were much
larger people.
(Harpist: "Never mind, I'll lug it myself.")
Yeah, they had hands the size of small dogs.
The truth:
Minstrels were medieval European
bards who performed songs whose lyrics told stories about
distant places or historical events, many times made up.
Minstrels were not know to lug around
harps, nor were they larger, nor were their hands the size of
small dogs.
The harp is the oldest known stringed
instrument, so in a sense it is the grandfather of the guitar.
The origins of the harp are not known
but discoveries showed a harp-like instrument on rock paintings
dating back to 15,000 BC in France.
