Sam, Cliff, Norm and two other bar
patrons return from fishing without Frazier. Diane asks where
he is and is informed the left him out in the forest snipe
hunting. Diane asks "What's a snipe hunt?"
A snipe hunt
is an age old custom wherein we take an uninitiated hunter like
your Dr. Crane, put him in a clearing with a gunny sack and the
rest of us go into the bush to beat out the snipe to him.
(Diane: "Rather
an elementary sport, but I still don't see the humor in it")
The humor,
Diane, is that while the guy's out there with a gunny sack, we
go off, have a nice dinner and come back here for some beers.
Sam: You see, there's no such thing
really as a snipe, so there's no real reason for any of us to
hang around, but since the bagger doesn't know that, he stays
and we leave.
Sam to Diane: I swear to you, this is
really funny.
The truth:
Cliff is on the snipe with this one, many people have been
tricked into versions of the snipe hunt, but the all involve a
bag of some sort, the woods and creating odd snipe calls.
Sammy is the one who is wrong this time as snipes do really
exist, just not in forests so your chances of catching one in
your gunny sack are pretty much nil.
