Cliff On Reincarnation...

Season 2 Episode 1: Power Play
Airdate:
September 29 1983
After realizing most the people Coach played baseball with are gone, he asks "Is death the end? Is that all there is?

Luckily Cliff is around and points out that millions believe in reincarnation.

Coach asks "You mean like when you come back as a chicken?"

The Hindus believed that what you came back as depends on your behavior in this life, you know, if you led a good if you come back in an elevated state.
(Coach asks: "Like Colorado?")
No Coach, more like a king or a prince, conversely, if you've not led a good life you come back in a more lowly state.

The truth:

After the last nine episodes of season one passed with no more Cliff Clavin trivia, it seems the writers decided to throw a curve ball as this one of Cliff's ramblings is true.

Hindus believe in an endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth and in a force called karma which decides the course of lives to come.

Cliff Recommends: Buddha Figures

Something to relearn:

  • Reincarnation comes from carnate which means flesh.
  • Incarnate means to enter the flesh, thus reincarnate means to reenter the flesh.
  • Reincarnation repeats until the soul reaches a state of full enlightenment called mukti.
  • The waves you send out through your deeds, both good and bad, are called karma.
